False positive on field drug test puts an innocent woman in jail for 5 months

Pasco County (WTFF) – A woman in Florida was jailed for 5 months because of a failed field drug test administered by a Pasco County sheriff. The lab test took 7 months to come back, revealing it was only a vitamin. She was initially charged with trafficking oxycodone.

“It felt like my whole life was over. It was terrible,” Rebecca told Fox 13.  “My kids were devastated. I was away for five months. I cried constantly.”

She got into this predicament because her car ran out of gas. Instead of helping her, the cop said “What are these?” and pointed to the vitamins. She told him the truth, but either he didn’t believe her, or he wanted to get one more drug arrest under his belt by any means necessary.

“They don’t look like vitamins. They look like oxycodone.” He then pulled out a ridiculous “field drug test kit” trusted by nation’s worst state.

The test came back with a positive hit for oxycodone, according to the arresting officer.

These tests are still being used today, despite how faulty they are.
