Milton (WTFF) – A Florida inmate was arrested after reportedly making written threats of terrorism.
Florida Department of Law Enforcement agents arrested 53-year-old Norberto Iglesias after an investigation revealed threatening letters claiming to have information about weapons and explosives throughout Florida, according to an FDLE news release.
He’s currently serving a 15-year sentence at the Blackwater Correctional Facility for grand theft and fraud.
Iglesias wrote that “blood will run” and people will die like in the 9/11 terrorist attacks.
In the letters, he claimed that Miami will be a “river of blood” as a result of a terrorist war.
While being interviewed, Iglesias said that he would only provide details unless he and another inmate could serve their prison sentences on house arrest or at a hotel in Miami.
Agents believe that Iglesias fabricated the threats to get out of prison early.
He was served an arrest warrant on April 29, 2019 for Iglesias at Blackwater Correctional Facility and he was arraigned Thursday in Santa Rosa County. This case will be prosecuted by the Office of the State Attorney, 1st Judicial Circuit.
Iglesias has been charged with the following felonies:
- Public Order Crimes: AFFECT THE CONDUCT OF GOVT CRIME OF TERRORISM
- Threat to Bomb: THREATEN DISCHARGE DESTRUCTIVE DEVICE
- Intimidation: SEND WRITTEN THREAT CONDUCT ACT OF TERRORISM
