Broome County, NY (WTFF) – A man from Sarasota, FL and Ithica, NY was arrested by New York State Police for numerous crimes.
25-year-old John S. Mehne faces felony charges for Burglary in the first degree, Robbery in the first degree, Aggravated Cruelty to Animals and Criminal Possession of Stolen Property, according to a press release.
Around 9:45 a.m. on Tuesday, police responded to a 911 call regarding an accident near the Pennsylvania border.
A 2016 Audi A5 was found “disabled in the driving lane and facing the wrong direction with no operator.”
The vehicle was stolen from Sarasota.
Mehne crashed it into a guiderail after “driving erratically,” police say.
The Florida Man, presumably desperate to get as far away from the peninsula as possible, tried jumping onto the back of a van that drove past the wreck.
He failed.
A pickup truck drove by, and the Florida Man successfully leaped into the truck’s bed.
The driver pulled over, and Mehne dashed westerly into the woods.
Shortly after 4 p.m., a resident on Duell Road called 911 to report a man found in his chicken coop.
“What are you doing?” the homeowner asked Mehne.
The Florida Man replied that he was “killing chickens.”
Then he picked up an ax and started chasing the resident.
Next, he stole an ATV and drove further west.
Mehne made it to another chicken coop on Springer Road.
Troopers received a call that “a white male, with blonde hair, was naked in a chicken coop.”
Broome County Sheriff’s deputies arrived and took him into custody after a City of Binghamton K9 bit him.
Police interviewed residents, and found that Mehne committed a burglary on Springer Road and tampered with a deck at another residence.
He also reportedly killed a family dog.
Mehne was taken to the Binghamton General Hospital for the K9 bite.
He’s now in the Broome County Jail with no bail.
A quick search on Facebook reveals a John Stanislav Mehne from Ithica, NY.
We’re assuming it’s the same person as the arrestee.
Mehne was attending the Left Ringling College of Art and Design in Sarasota to study Video Game Concept Art during the month of April, according to a recent post. He started school in August of 2016.
