Longwood, FL (WTFF) – A black bear got yelled at for opening a homeowner’s refrigerator in Wekiwa Springs.
Brad Tamm posted a video of the encounter with the caption “Bear opens refrigerator in Wekiva Longwood Orlando Home and I chased him out.”
The bear is seen fumbling through the fridge for tasty snacks.
The homeowner yells “get outta here!” at the unwanted guest and bangs on the door to scare him away. After a few moments the bear gives up and walks away, dejected and hungry.
He told Click Orlando about his encounter:
“Surprising. I really thought just a little bit of noise or just seeing me stand up, I think he would take off. But they are so conditioned to be around people and humans.”
The FWC tells us that “a fed bear is a dead bear,” which is important to understand. As cool as it is to have these furry friends around us, this closeness creates problems. Firstly, bears are more likely to get hit by a car or shot by Florida Man if they get too comfortable around humans. Secondly, your little kid or dog might get eaten as a tasty snack.
Please lock up your garages and invest in bear proof trash cans. If you have a “trash bear” in your hood that visits for munchies, please urge your neighbors to take preventative measures.
