Naked Florida man steals truck with swan sculpture in back

A massive, checkered swan statue worth an estimated $25,000 was recovered Friday after deputies say a naked Florida man stole it.

The man was found and arrested in Hillsborough County. But, deputies couldn’t find the swan until an observant fisherman saw the large bird along a pond.

The Polk County Sheriff’s Office said surveillance footage shows the Ronald Thompson, 47, attempting to break into Lakeland Cold Storage on Frontage Road South on May 19.

Footage shows him creeping around the business using a white, 5-gallon bucket to cover his front area. Deputies say he tried several doors around the business then stole a Ford F-150 King Ranch truck, which had the large swan statute in the back.

Both Thompson and the truck were found in Hillsborough County but the swan was not.

The Sheriff’s Office posted the incident to their Facebook page on Thursday hoping to find the sculpture. It has since garnered hundreds of shares.

The swan was discovered Friday by a fisherman around a pond near Hibiscus Parkway West. It is being processed by crime-scene investigators then will be returned to its owners.
