Florida Cop accidentally shoots up wrong house

ocoee-policeAn award-winning Florida cop who fired into an occupied home after responding to a wrong address, forcing an innocent family out at gunpoint in the middle of the night and ordering them to sit handcuffed on the curb for ten hours, was indicted by a grand jury.

Ocoee police officer Carlos Anglero turned himself in Thursday evening, according to WKMG in Orlando.

There is still no word on whether the other officer who fired into the Central Florida home, Stephanie Roberts, will also be indicted. Both were already under investigation by internal affairs prior to the shooting.

The incident took place at around 1 a.m. on February 6, 2016 when dispatchers sent the officers to the wrong address on a domestic violence call because of a spelling error.

The actual address was a home on Bent Grass Avenue, but the dispatcher typed in “Bend Grass Avenue,” which did not come up in the system.

So the dispatcher sent the officers to Belhaven Falls Drive, figuring that was close enough, even though it was a half-mile from Bent Grass Avenue, according to the Orlando Sentinel.

The officers pulled up to the home and began banging on the front door, rousing a husband, wife and 12-year-old son from their sleep.

When the husband demanded to know who was at the door, he received no answer, so he assumed they were burglars trying to break into his home.

The man then retrieved a gun as the cops began shining lights into his home, which made them fear for their lives.

“Gun!” one of the cops yelled before both cops opened fire.

The family then hit the ground as bullets tore into their home.

It does not appear as if the cops ever made it to the correct address where the domestic violence was taking place because they spent the next ten hours further harassing the family by keeping them handcuffed on the curb.

Roberts has since been fired, but Anglero was kept on paid administrative leave.

In 2010, Anglero received the Officer of the 3rd Quarter award for planning a company picnic as you can read in this screenshot.

Not to be outdone, Roberts received the Officer of the 4th Quarter award in 2013 for reasons that are not stated in this document.

The two officers were already “under internal investigations before the shootings for issues involving time sheets and workman’s compensation,” according to WFTV.
