Lake Wales Punk Carjacks an Old Man in Front of his Home

Groveland (WTFF) – A Florida man has been arrested for allegedly carjacking an elderly man.

Per the arrest affidavit, the incident occurred on Friday, February 9th. Here’s how it all went down:

A 68-year-old man was returning to his home in Groveland.

Because he knows that Florida Man exists, he had a gate installed in front of his driveway to keep those creatures out. He went for the cheap option that requires manually unlocking it. So, he left his 2011 Ford SUV idling and walked over to the gate so he could unlock it and drive inside to park safely.

Little did he know that Florida Man was watching….

He suddenly noticed that another car pulled up. Out jumped a punk from the back passenger seat wearing a black bandanna over his face.

The punk was later identified as 20-year-old Lucas Wayne Letchworth, from Lake Wales (Polk County). He was born in Florida too, which is a bit of a rarity for Florida Man.

Lucas ran towards the idling Ford.

The old man was not having it, and he ran towards it as well to claim his vehicle.

They started fighting. Like a little punk, Lucas “attempted to flee to the original vehicle he arrived in.” But it was too late. The driver already sped of, leaving Florida Man behind.

It was all or nothing now. Lucas turned around and BOP! He punched the old man in the face with a right hook, leaving a red mark on his cheek. Seizing the moment, he ran inside the Ford and drove off with it.

Lake County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the scene and found the Ford SUV not far from the incident location.

Lucas ran into the woods.

The deputies told him “stop!” but he kept running. So the deputies brought out Dando.

Dando’s a K9 and runs a lot faster than Lucas. The pooch was a good boy and apprehended the suspect. And of course, Lucas physically resisted, earning him an extra charge of Resisting w/ violence.

The bandanna was found during the arrest, matching the old man’s story.

Lucas was also charged with Carjacking and Battery on a person 65 years of age or older. His bond’s at $35,000.

Plus it looks like he’s crying in his mugshot, which is worth mentioning.

This is just disgusting. His great grandfather was a well respected officer with the Lake Wales Police Department. If he continues to make poor choices it is only a matter of time until the next old man pulls out his gun.. He raised better than that.
