Comments Guide

Behold the comments section of WTF Florida! Get ready for a wild ride…

WARNING: our comments are 100% unedited and uncensored.

Here’s our little guidebook on the comments section. This is the easy-to-read version designed to help you jump right in. For the boring legal stuff, please read our terms of use and privacy policy, which you must agree to before using this site.

All comments can be made anonymously

That should tell you everything you need to know. Expect offensiveness. Keep in mind that some people are just “trolling.” If you want to be taken seriously, write something serious. The beauty of anonymity is that you can get things off your chest, and talk about things that people are afraid to talk about. There’s no harm in expressing yourself. Say whatever you feel. We need to talk about everything, especially things that we don’t like talking about. Here’s your chance to really talk about those things, without fear of retaliation.

The comments posted here are artistic works of fiction and falsehood. Only a fool would take anything posted here as fact. That’s our way of absolving you from the responsibility of saying crazy sh*t. While we can’t stop the FBI from knocking on your door, we wrote our terms of service in a way that allows the unfettered flow of free speech.

You can choose to use your real name if you’d like. Or use a pen name. Or whatever. Leave the name box empty and it will show up as “Anonymous.”

If you see an “invalid email” error and want to remain anonymous, use nope@wtfflorida.com instead of leaving it blank. Please don’t use a random fake email address, because chances are that somebody actually has that email address.

Your email address will not be posted

Our website does NOT publicly show the your address entered into the Email field by design. Only our admins can see it.

Only your Name and Comment will appear publicly. Don’t put anything in there that you don’t want the world to see. Technically, anything you post here is public information, but that’s just because we don’t want to get sued if our site gets hacked. We have never published anyone’s email from a public comment, nor do we ever plan to do that. We hate giant data-selling monsters, and refuse to go down that path or expose the data that you trust with us.

We do have the right to email you, but it’s very unlikely that we will do that ever, unless you ask for it, say something really special, or if we think you need to be cheered up.

Comments cannot be deleted

Once you post it, your comment stays “forever,” or until the world (or the website) ends.

Comments appear right away

…unless they get flagged as spam by our systems, or if they contain a link. Those comments will require approval by a site admin. We’re not censoring you, promise. Just be patient. We are understaffed and it might take some time.

You can edit your comment within 15 minutes

If you have cookies turned on, and if our systems are working, you should be able to edit your comment within 15 minutes of posting. Try not to make any egregious typos the first time. If you want to change something, just click the “edit” button within 15 minutes of posting. We make no guarantee that it will work.

Likes

Every post has a thumbs up and thumbs down button. You cannot “undo” a like or a dislike. If you have fat fingers, be careful clicking, because once clicked, your vote stays. You only get one vote per action per comment. Each IP address gets their own unique vote.

No illegal content

This is main rule: do not post links to illegal content or viruses. If you do, your comment will be deleted and you will probably be banned. If you post links to anything that involves hurting kids, we will report you to the FBI. Links to viruses and such things will be reported to Google Safe Browsing.

No doxing

This is our other main rule: do not post phone numbers or addresses of non-public, non-famous people. WTF Florida is not your personal army, and we are not a vehicle for attacking others. Politicians are fair game, as well as any other public figure.

Links must be approved

Posted a link to a harmless website? It has to be approved by a moderator before it appears. Don’t worry, we’re not censoring you, it just takes some time to approve because we’re understaffed.

Image links turn into images

Just paste the URL of an image onto a single line in your comment, and it should turn into an actual image. If you don’t know how to do this, then just don’t even. Please don’t post porn or violent images, because our advertisers don’t like stuff like that, and not everybody wants to see it.

Subscriptions

Not to be confused with our Newsletter, you can subscribe to comment threads.

To sign up for the entire thread:

If you want to get emailed for every single comment on a specific story, just click the “Subscribe to comments thread” option below the comments and choose to Notify of: “new follow-up comments” and enter your email address. Hit “Subscribe.” You will need to verify your email address after that to make sure it’s really you.

To get replies to only your comment:

BEFORE YOU MAKE A COMMENT, click on the little bell icon next to “Post Comment” before posting. You must use a valid email address.

The bell should light up green. You will need to verify your email address by checking your email and following the instructions.

Unsubscribe:

You can unsubscribe at any time by clicking “Unsubscribe” at the bottom of any email.

Every comment has a hard link

Just click the little link icon in the top right, and copy the address that appears above it. If you can’t figure out how to do that, then we really can’t help you. Call your grandkids.
