Calling all songwriters, beat makers, rappers, and Floridians! We are running a contest for the best music video about Publix! First place winner gets a $50 Publix gift card and will have their video featured on our website for at least a month. Our site gets about 80,000+ views every month, so it’s a great way to promote your music.

Deadline to submit your work: January 26, 2018

Public voting: February 5 – 28

Winners announced: March 6

Contest Details:

Purpose: To exemplify how important Publix is to Floridians, to have fun, and to share the gift of laughter.

Theme: The song and video MUST be about Publix. Alternatively, you can choose to side with a competitor, such as Winn-Dixie, but the song MUST be about the beef between the grocery store of your choice and Publix. See some examples from the past for inspiration.

Entry Fee: $5 per song, payable on shop.wtfflorida.com via credit card. Limit 3 songs per entrant. Fee is non-refundable.
There is no entry fee. Music is a gift, and Publix/Florida is a magical place. One love.

Entry Deadline: January 26, 2018

Format: You must provide a link to a YouTube video that is on your YouTube channel. Alternatively, you may use Vimeo. You may also send us the original video file and we will post it for you on our YouTube channel. If you end up winning, please also send us the original video file so we can post it on our Facebook page.

Screening: Out of all the submissions, five runners-up will be selected by the staff at WTF Florida. The initial judging will be based on 70% lyrics (ties to Florida culture, cleverness), 20% musicality (how good the beat is, quality of sound), and 10% vocal delivery (quality of rapping/singing). Next, a public vote during the month of February will determine the winners.

Winning: The winners will be selected by a public voting process that begins on February 5th and runs until the end of the month. All five runners-up will have their videos hosted on WTFFlorida.com, where the public can watch them all and vote for their favorite. Only one vote is allowed per IP address. If you are caught trying to cheat, you will be disqualified. Winners will be announced March 6, 2018.

Prizes:

  • First Place: $50 Publix gift card, and your video will be featured on the home page of WTFFlorida.com for a month (or longer if we feel like it, but no promises).
  • Second Place: $20 Publix gift card, and an honorable mention on our Facebook page.
  • Third Place: $10 Publix gift card, and an honorable mention on our Facebook page.

Running WTFFlorida.com is not a lucrative business, in fact we lose money because of server/website costs. We are doing this for fun. If you would like to donate to increase the prize winnings, please contact us.

Eligibility: This contest is intended for “amateur” musicians and is not open to “professional” songwriters or those whose primary source of income (50% or more) is derived from songwriting or publishing. Income from performing gigs is not considered songwriting income. Co-writers are subject to the same eligibility requirements as the entrant. You must be the creator of the song in order to submit. You may not submit someone else’s song and take credit for it.

Detailed rules: WTF Florida is defined as “we.” The songwriter submitting the song is defined as “contestants,” “entrants,” or “you.” Contestants MUST provide a valid email address, name, phone number, and mailing address to win. Gift card prizes will be mailed to the address of the winners via the Publix gift cards ordering system on Publix.com. We are in no way affiliated with Publix, and we are not violating copyright laws because this is satire (and if anything, it’s free advertising for Publix, so relax). At least 20 people must sign up before we start voting; the deadline will be extended until the minimum amount of contestants has been met. Contestants cannot be signed to a label or publishing deal. Each song submitted must be entrant’s original work. We reserve the right to remove your submission if we suspect that your work was plagiarized, if fraudulent votes are detected, or for any other reason. Rules and dates are subject to change. Winning is not guaranteed. You MUST provide a valid email address to win. If you are one of the 3 winners, you MUST provide a valid mailing address in order to receive your prize. Contest may be cancelled at any time, there are no guarantees. If you do not respond to our emails, or fail to provide your address, you forfeit the prize. A song is defined as a melody with lyrics. Entrants retain all publishing rights to their song(s).
