The MAC Cosmetics counter at Macy’s in the Orlando Fashion Square Mall saw Black Friday-esque chaos Saturday when it gave away free lipstick.
The event was part of the makeup store’s companywide campaign celebrating National Lipstick Day, according to MAC. It gave away full tubes of its lipstick to early birds willing to maneuver through the mall before the store ran out.
But things got ugly at about 12:30 p.m. when some women reportedly cut in line, ticking off those who’d been waiting their turn. A fight broke out, and police were called to the store for a report of a “general disturbance,” according to the Orlando Police Department.
“Several” women were involved, but the person who called police declined to have officers file a report, according to the Police Department. At least one woman’s face was beaten in the kerfuffle.
“One of the females involved had redness on her face, but refused medical attention,” said police spokeswoman Michelle Guido.
The average MAC lipstick runs for about $17.50, according to the store’s website. The full-sized tubes were only available for free while supplies lasted, leaving some empty handed.
No word yet on whether the facial “redness” matched the color of the lipstick.
